Agba Jalingo Regains Freedom In Abuja

ECOWAS Court Orders FG To pay N30 million to Agba Jalingo

The publisher of Cross River Watch, Agba Jalingo has been released from the detention of the Nigerian Police Force.

Jalingo’s release was disclosed in a post shared by Omoyele Sowore on his Facebook page.

Sowore wrote, “Agba was granted bail around 10 pm on Saturday. In going to Lagos to kidnap and fly him into Abuja from Lagos they had planned on detaining him illegally at least for some time. We knew the drill and never gave up as they lied to us about his whereabouts.

“The fantastic advocacy, physical and online actions carried out by conscientious Nigerians led the police authorities to release Agba Jalingo in the night.

“Mention must be made of legal efforts led by Femi Falana (SAN) in Lagos which continued until Agba was finally released to us. We can’t say it enough that if we genuinely bond together as a united resistance against tyranny, oppression and repression Nigeria will experience true freedom and progress. Thank you all!”

Recall that police operative from its headquarters in the Federal Capital Territory on Friday stormed Jalingo’s residence.

Jalingo before his arrest had revealed that police officers surrounded his house and held down his wife and daughter.

The human rights activist was later transferred to Abuja on Saturday through the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Ikeja, Lagos State.

The wife of the activist, Mrs Jalingo while speaking with Channels TV said, “They have taken him (Jalingo) to Abuja.”

Jalingo’s wife while speaking on his offences said, “Defamation of character and infringement of integrity on Frank Ayade’s wife, the younger brother to Cross River State, Governor Ben Ayade.”

Speaking about the lawyer handling her husband’s case, she said, “Femi Falana (SAN) was in the station with us this morning and has sent his lawyers in Abuja to handle the case.”

Falana also confirmed that he has taken over the case of the activist.
