Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania‘s Jonathan Majors details his obsession with Batman.Majors was introduced as The Marvel Cinematic Universe during the Loki finale as He Who Remains, a variant of Multiverse Saga villain Kang the Conquerer. The character will next appear in the upcoming Ant-Man sequel before his tenure in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. Though he will be portraying one of Marvel’s most iconic characters on the big and small screen, the actor is also a huge DC fan, having been obsessed with Batman since he was a child.
Now, in a recent interview on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Majors detailed how his Batman obsession led him to make his own Bat-stunt as a child. After telling that his mother threw him a Batman-themed birthday party in September, Majors recalled a story as a six-year-old-child who wouldn’t want to take off his costume. The actor, disguised as The Caped Crusader, jumped out of his mother’s car hoping he would nail one of Batman’s signature moves. Check out his full story below:
“It was a big thing. I was about six years old. My mother made me a Batman-themed birthday party, in which my brilliant mother made me a Batman suit with the cape and the muscles. The whole thing was wicked. Because my birthday is in September, I thought “Okay, October is here. I’m gonna keep it on for Halloween,” or as we call it in my house, Hallelujah Night. Tom goes along. I don’t take this thing off. Maybe nine months later, my mom’s driving. I got my cape on. That’s the only thing left. The muscles have come off. I got my cape on, and we’re driving up the street. I say “Mom, I’m gonna do it.” She says “J, what are you doing, J-boo? What you gonna do?” “Mom, watch this I can do it. I’m Batman.” You always see Batman jump out of the car, he rolls, and he lands. So she is like. “J, stay in the car.” I see the house. I go, “This is my time. This is it. This is it. Action.” I open the door. Throw myself out. Roll, roll, roll. And I land. My mom is screaming her head off, going, “Boy, what the hell are you doing?” I stand up. I go, “Momma! Momma! Momma!” And she beats my ass. But at six years old. I learned for a fact that I can do my own stunts.”
Who Could Majors Have Played In The DCU?
As Majors will be the Avengers’ biggest threat yet in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Kang the Conqueror, one wonders which character he could have played in the DCU. It seems as though he would’ve done a great job as Batman, particularly with his love for the character as a child which led him to learn that he could do his own stunts. However, he may have been a better fit as The Caped Crusader in Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe than in the DCU, where Ben Affleck plays a much older, and more brutal version of the character than audiences were accustomed to seeing in previous iterations of the superhero.
With HBO Max currently developing a Green Lantern series, Majors may also be a good fit to play John Stewart. It’s a character that has been aching for a big screen adaptation, with Zack Snyder even filming a scene involving Stewart for Zack Snyder’s Justice League that was ultimately scrapped by Warner Bros. as the studio stated they had plans for the character. While Majors is playing a super villain in the MCU, it would be interesting to see him play one of the DC universe’s most-known heroes in the Green Lantern comics.
As an antagonist, Majors could’ve performed well as Black Manta in the Aquaman films. While Yahya Abdul-Mateen II excelled at playing the character, and will star in the MCU in its upcoming Disney+ Wonder Man series, Majors’ take on the character may have been slightly less action-driven, and a bit more psychological, than Mateen’s performance. It would’ve likely made a more engrossing antagonist in the process. Regardless of which character Majors could’ve played in the DCU, he will be breaking apart the Marvel Cinematic Universe fairly soon when Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania releases in theaters on February 17, 2023.
