Everybody wants to have a great time with their friends. Having fun doesn’t just mean dancing in nightclubs or drinking in bars anymore. As we’ve learned over the last few years of the pandemic, people can have a great night with their friends from the comfort of their homes with unique and competitive board games!
During and after the pandemic, the world has seen a rise in game nights. Board games, quizzes, and even crazy drinking games have surged in popularity. So many of us have found a lot of fun playing all sorts of games together. So, what makes a game night a success for everybody? If you’re planning on hosting a game night for you and your friends, you’ll need to consider a few things beforehand if what you want to have a great time.
Who To Invite
A game night is not like a big party. Don’t waste time scrolling through your Facebook friends list to decide who gets an invitation. A game night is meant to have fun with those closest to you. Send out invites to your dearest friends, who you know will come and enjoy the night with you. You’ll have a lot more fun playing with the people closest to you rather than just mere acquaintances.
How To Choose The Right Games
The games are an important aspect, after all, it’s called game night for a reason! Don’t just stick to one game all night. Not all of your friends will have the patience for Dungeons and Dragons, and long games can run dry after a few rounds. Make sure to have a few games on hand to guarantee you all have fun.
A variety doesn’t always have to mean board games. Have a pack of cards on hand, if you fancy a game of Snap, or some cups and a ball if you’re up for a game of Beer Pong! Or if you feel like stepping into the shoes of Regis Philbin, you can host quiz show game nights. Create your own questions and host a table quiz with your friends. The possibility of quiz topics are endless, including movies, music, books, decades in history, or ask questions about each other. It’s a perfect way to get to know your friends better.
How To Choose a Theme
If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also choose games that evolve around a theme. Look at what’s trending right now and evolve your games around those topics. If you’re a Disney fan, have a few Disney card games or if you love Harry Potter, you can dress up like wizards and play a few adventures from the Wizarding World. Themes help add a little something extra to any game night!
Have The Right Food
Game Nights do not require fancy gourmet meals or seven-course dinners, so don’t waste your time cooking over a hot stove. Delicious snacks like chicken bites, cookies, or even pizza are perfect for any game night. You can also incorporate it into your theme by asking your friends to bring a selection of food revolving around the theme of the game night. Just make sure there’s a vacuum cleaner on hand to clear up all the crumbs afterward!
Take Your Game Beyond The Table
During the pandemic, hosting game nights online proved to be a great way to alleviate boredom and keep up with those we couldn’t be with in person. We loved logging onto Skype or Zoom to see and visit with our friends through the webcam. Sometimes, groups would take turns hosting game nights online.
Hosting online game nights are also good for those who have friends living abroad. You can have groups of people playing Among Us and Drawize altogether in Ireland, Spain, Australia, or anywhere! You don’t always have to be in one room together to have a good time. But always remember the most important thing when it comes to any game night: Having fun with those close to you is all that really matters.
