Initial excitement about the newly released demo for the Resident Evil 4 remake may have quickly turned into revulsion with one of the more morbid style directions the game is taking in regard to animals. Perhaps this is a sign that the evil Umbrella Corporation in the game actually despises animals, or it is simply symbolic of the remake taking on a darker tone than the first version of the game. Either way, the RE4 demo showed players carnage that goes beyond the original.
The RE4 remake demo and release date were announced at the Capcom Spotlight on March 9, with the demo becoming available immediately. RE4‘s Chainsaw Demo lets players experience the village sequence near the beginning of the game, which included a memorable moment with a dog from the 2005 original. This demo is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam and has no time limit or cap on how many times it can be replayed.
Resident Evil 4’s Remake Is Sadder With The Loss Of A Beloved Dog
In the original version of Resident Evil 4 players come across a dog that has gotten stuck in a bear trap, and they have the option to rescue it. If they do, they are rewarded by the pup returning later to aid Leon in fighting an El Gigante. In the Chainsaw Demo for the Resident Evil 4 remake Leon once again finds the dog stuck in a bear trap, but this time he apparently arrives too late. The Resident Evil 4 remake’s change to the dog makes it even more depressing and gruesome this time around by making the poor creature not only already dead, but having its blood and gore covering the entire scene.
Other Animals Also Fall Victim To The Umbrella Corporation’s Cruelty In The RE4 Remake
During the rather short Resident Evil 4 demo, players find even more examples of animals that have been added to the list of grisly features. Even some of the chickens, which can lay eggs that give Leon health, are becoming targets by attacking the player, and a cow is easily set ablaze by a falling lantern. The Umbrella Corporation is behind nearly every problem in the Resident Evil universe, and infecting this rural Spanish population has resulted in gruesome animal cruelty as well.
It is no secret that the RE4 remake is striving to take the horror genre further with an even darker edge. The Chainsaw Demo is a wonderful showcase for the new gameplay changes in RE4‘s remake, but animal lovers be warned, this demo and game are not for the tender-hearted. However, overall the Resident Evil 4 remake does a fantastic job of updating the game to modern graphics and even changing many details within the game itself for an even more fitting experience for a horror genre, although hopefully, the dog’s fortunes will be reversed yet again, so it can be saved again when the game releases in full.
