Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s Good Omens has amassed a cult following with many fans and professional cosplayers deciding to try their hand at recreating the unique looks of the two leading men, Aziraphale and Crowley. The novel was released in 1990 as a collaboration between the authors as well as Gaiman’s first venture into fiction novels, although not his first work of fiction as he was already working on The Sandman. While it remains to be seen whether the Prime Video series will be renewed for a season 3, that hasn’t stopped excitement from the cosplaying community dressing up as the main characters.
Aziraphale is an angel of Heaven, very proper and always dressed elegantly whether he’s relaxing in the backrooms of his bookshop or in a café in Paris. Crowley, on the other hand, is a fallen angel, a demon from Hell with his attention purely focused on the pleasures and luxuries of the world. Crowley is also similarly well-dressed; however, his style is much more laid back and casual, often donning a dark t-shirt or button shirt with several buttons undone beneath a blazer and a very thin scarf. Both Aziraphale and Crowley have impeccable taste and have adorned a number of different outfits to blend in with a variety of times and settings through the first two seasons of Good Omens, giving cosplayers plenty of choices to work with when recreating their looks.
10 Elizabethan Aziraphale
As servants of Heaven and Hell, Aziraphale and Crowley have been in common business throughout the centuries. During the series, the pair’s friendship is shown throughout history, and in one such instance, Aziraphale adorns some classic Elizabethan attire. From the ruffle collar down to the puffy pants, Aziraphale is dressed to impress on any occasion. Cosplayer @owl_feathers presents a wonderful side-by-side comparison of their take on the Angel’s classic style. While a number of elements are altered to suit the more feminine look of her dress, much of the heart remains from the patterned jacket to the loose lace fringe on the sleeves.
9 All I Ever Did Was Ask Questions
Crowley may be a demon from the depths of Hell, but in many ways, he is simply looking for purpose and direction in his immortal existence. As a fallen angel, Crowley has been tasked with bringing souls to hell through whatever temptations and despicable acts he may be able to perform, but the monotony of living with just one goal of bringing about the ineffable future is somewhat lacking. Cosplayer @artemiswildcosplay perfectly captures the angsty internal struggle of Crowley’s character with all the details nailed. The thin scarf, gray t-shirt, low-cut waistcoat, steampunk-style glasses, and boots are all spot on. Topping it all off, they have included a brilliant set of black wings with exquisite feathers completing the look.
8 Picnic in the Park
Crowley and Aziraphale’s relationship has been going on for much of recorded history and the resulting chemistry is evident any time the two appear on-screen together. User @bananacustardcostuming has donned the look of Crowley here and despite some obvious departures from the original look, they could easily be mistaken for David Tennant. The glasses are not exactly accurate, and the tattoos on both wrists don’t match up, but it’s a complimentary addition for the demon. Meanwhile, @britishspidey provides a much more faithful look of Aziraphale including the white hair and bow tie.
7 Aziraphale and Crowley
While Aziraphale and Crowley do possess very distinct looks and sense of dress, they also present a very clear aesthetic. With Aziraphale leaning towards light-colored clothing and a very well-put-together look, and Crowley having a much more relaxed approach appearing to have always just rolled out of bed and thrown something together from a wardrobe exclusively made up of greys and blacks. The talented @silhouettecosplay proves how simple it can be to create the perfect cosplay when one captures the characters’ aesthetics. Though none of the items pictured is an exact match, they are unmistakably pulling off the Crowley and Aziraphale looks.
6 Oh, How the Mighty Have Fallen
Crowley may be a demon, but he is also incredibly perceptive and inquisitive. As they prepare for the end of the world, Crowley continues to keep his cool, calm, and collected confidence. Happy to watch from the sidelines as things fall apart, Crowley reflects on his part in it all, and that sense of reflection and sort of ambivalence is captured here in a look from @oni.cos. 5 It’s All About the Attitude
A friendship between an angel and a demon may seem like a poor match, but opposites attract, even on a higher plane. Aziraphale is full of a sort of nervous, anxious energy, while Crowley exudes extraordinary confidence. This feeling is captured well by @ping_timeout as @steinholic’s Crowley and @Grayson_Fin’s Aziraphale emulate not just the look of the Good Omens leads, but also their characteristic emotions.
4 Playing Both Sides
For this entry, @cowbuttcrunchies delivers exceptional quality with their portrayal of Aziraphale and Crowley in their Elizabethan best. The outfits on display here are some of the most accurate to the show featuring every element imaginable with even the correct set of smaller glasses for Crowley and the puffy shorts for Aziraphale. The old church door backdrop and the talented photography by @amiephotos make this set of costumes stand out among what is already a group of high-quality cosplayers.
3 First, We Feast
The Elizabethan look clearly captured the attention of the cosplay community with many of the most popular cosplays depicting this setting for the pair. Collaborators @joker_say_smile and @dear_michell make an excellent Aziraphale and Crowley respectively. If anything this cosplay embellishes the look that features in the series and brings it up to a higher level alongside the set and the edit of the image from photographer @_marten_brock_.
2 The Finer Details
While many of the previous cosplays nail the costume for Crowley, a crucial feature in the series is his snake tattoo on the right side of his face and the demon eyes. The detail-oriented cosplay from @nonbinate includes both in their close-up cosplay alongside the TV-accurate glasses making this look really stand out. With that in mind, the differences in the scarf and other styling can be quickly forgiven.
1 Nothing Is Better Than A Good Book
An essential part of Aziraphale’s character is his deep love of literature and desire for peace and quiet. The setting of the show may not be very conducive to this as they race to stop the end of the world, but if Aziraphale had their way, it would certainly be holed up with a good book and a cup of tea. Cosplayer @demholycal manages to bring this to life giving Aziraphale the much-needed break from the madness of events in Tadfield during Good Omens.
