There’s never a good time for acne to pop on your face, especially before a wedding. While acne is normal, it is something brides would want to avoid on their wedding day! Every bride wishes to look her best on one of the most important days of her life. After all, no one likes the zits to show up just before the nuptials. If you are worried that the uninvited zits might pop on your face right before your wedding day, we’ve got you!

Renowned dermatologist Dr Kiran Sethi recently took to her Instagram to share some diet tips to avoid acne pop-ups before the wedding.

Diet to deal with an acne breakout

When skin pores are blocked by bacteria, dead skin cells, or both, it can lead to the onset of acne. Additionally, the body overproduces sebum, an oil that prevents the skin from drying out, which leads to this clogging. There are many factors that can make matters worse, one of which is diet. People tend to underestimate the role of diet when it comes to skin health.

What you eat has a great impact on your health and skin, and certain foods can trigger a breakout. So, the one thing you can do to avoid acne is to change your diet and avoid certain foods that can trigger acne breakouts.

Diet tips to avoid acne breakout

If you are afraid that zits might pop up on your face just before your D-day, fret not! Dr Sethi shares 5 foods that you should avoid eating before the wedding to avoid acne breakout:

1. High-glycemic foods

The National Health Service, England says that the glycemic index (GI) is a rating system to determine the carbohydrates in foods. It indicates how certain foods affect your body’s glucose levels. So, our bodies produce a hormone called insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1) during puberty. A study published in the Advances in Dermatology and Allergology found that foods with high glycemic index are more likely to increase IGF-1 levels, which can lead to acne breakout. Sugary foods, soft drinks, white bread, potatoes, white rice, etc. are some foods with high GI that you should avoid.

2. Dairy products

The Advances in Dermatology and Allergology study also found that dairy products are not the best for you if your skin is acne-prone. Several studies have found a link between acne and dairy products. A study published in The Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology found dairy can irritate acne. Having dairy products may throw your hormones out of whack and trigger acne. So, it’s best to avoid them before your wedding day.

4. Cinnamon

Cinnamon or dalchini is an ingredient that is often used in Indian households, but it might not be the best thing for you before your wedding. Dr Sethi says that cinnamon can trigger zits, and we definitely don’t want that to happen – especially on your wedding day!

5. Stay hydrated

Drinking lots of water and coconut water is a great boon to avoid acne, advises the dermatologist. Studies have shown that drinking water hydrates the skin, and helps prevent dehydration and dry skin. Dry skin can trigger oil production, which can trigger acne.

While these tips may come in handy to keep acne at bay before your wedding, make sure you also take the advice of your dermatologist to be safe.
