Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has called for the arrest of the Minister of State for Labour, Festus Keyamo, SAN, over his statement accusing the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, of planning to fake his assassination
Naija News earlier reported that Keyamo in a statement on Monday said that Obi was planning to fake an assassination attempt on himself and hire some supporters dressed in the APC caps and T-shirts to attack some of his party offices.
Reacting to Keyamo’s allegation, Obi’s Media Aide, Emeka Obasi, described it as fallacious.
Speaking on the situation, the group insisted that Keyamo has to provide evidence of the alleged assassination.
HURIWA demanded that President Muhammadu Buhari relieve him of his position as a minister, adding that the junior minister cannot hold a publicly funded office and at the same time be engaging in a virtually full-time private duty as staff of the Presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress.
The rights group argued that it was unethical and and unconstitutional since one person cannot at the same time draw public and private funds whilst essentially engaging in strictly private partisan duties for APC.
HURIWA insisted that considering the fact that Senator Ifeanyi Ubah was nearly assassinated by armed attackers in Anambra State then Keyamo’s reckless statement should not be overlooked.
