The presidential running mate of the Labour Party (LP), Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has revealed why he stopped backing President Muhammadu Buhari.
Naija News reports that Baba-Ahmed was elected in 2011 to represent Kaduna North Senatorial District on the platform of the now defunct Congress for Progressives Change (CPC) which also had Buhari as its presidential candidate.
Speaking in Kano over the weekend, the LP vice-presidential candidate disclosed that he parted ways with Buhari due to a change in ideology.
According to Baba-Ahmed, the President has lost his principles and bearings.
He also said the Labour Party was making progress in the North, adding that they are trying to ensure the party wins the 2023 election.
He said: “Over time, President Buhari lost his principles and bearings, the situation made it difficult for allies like myself to abide by his political philosophy and ideas.”

Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has deleted a tweet on the ‘Obidients’ the supporters of the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Naija News reports that Fani Kayode in the early hours of Monday, 22nd August shared a post on the microblogging platform, Twitter, on the ‘Obedient Movement’.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Chieftain opined that the LP supporters are everywhere but they ignore them at their own peril.
According to the former minister, the ‘Obidents’ will still be in their current position because they are not a political party but just a movement bound together by a common cause, purpose and objective of getting rid of the old leaders to usher in the new.
He tweeted: “These Obidients are EVERYWHERE. We ignore them at our peril. Long after we are all gone they will still be here because they are not a pol. party but a movement. They are bound together in a common cause, purpose & objective: to rid Nigeria of the old order & usher in the new.”
